# Aurora > Aurora is a privacy-first speech workspace for iPhone. It records conversations and produces live, speaker-separated transcripts, summaries and action items, processing audio and generating output on the device. Aurora is in active beta on TestFlight and is free during the beta. The Mac app is not released. Three status labels are used across this site and mean exactly this. Available in beta: recording, live speaker-separated transcription, offline operation after the initial model download, speaker separation, naming a speaker within a session, summaries, action items, calendar integration (read on the device), and plain-text export. Experimental in beta: Ask Aurora's evidence-linked answers, which cite a moment in the current session's transcript and abstain when the evidence is insufficient — grounded per-session serving exists, while the wider evidence architecture does not. In development: recognizing a known voice again in a later meeting (a name you assign is stored with that session, not learned as a voiceprint), cross-meeting search, cross-device conversation sync, and the macOS app. Transcription, speaker separation, summaries, action items and Ask Aurora run on the device. Recordings are not uploaded for transcription: there is no server path that receives them. Aurora is local-first, not network-free. The paths that exist are the one-time model download, an aggregate setup-time estimate, a free-minutes counter in the user's own iCloud key-value storage (the only always-on path, and not covered by the iCloud sync setting), an entitlement check when a subscription screen is opened, optional iCloud settings sync (off by default), optional web research in Ask Aurora (off by default), a setup measurement the user is asked about once, a diagnostic report the user sends, and exports the user makes. Reading the calendar is local and uses no network. A diagnostic report is only ever sent by an explicit user action. What it carries is governed by one switch, labelled "Include session details in report", which also governs audio and the screenshot. On a report started from inside a session that switch starts ON, attaching that session's transcript, Ask Aurora chat, recording and a screenshot. It is not an item-by-item picker, and the app's product contract still describes reports as content-free by default, which the shipping form is not. A report with no session attached never carries a transcript or a recording. Claims Aurora does not make: that nothing ever leaves the device, that transcription is perfect, that a diagnostic report excludes content by default, that speakers are recognized automatically across meetings, or that conversations sync across devices. Those are either untrue today or unverifiable. Airplane-mode testing proves that capture, transcription, separation and summaries work offline; it does not prove the absence of the network paths listed above.
